Buemi scoort hattrick met derde seizoenszege, Frijns teleurstellend veertiende

eDams-coureur Sebastien Buemi heeft ook de derde ePrix van het seizoen 2016/2017 gewonnen. De Zwitser startte de race als derde en profiteerde van pech voor Lucas di Grassi. Met zijn derde zege op rij scoort Buemi bovendien een nieuw record in de klasse: nog niet eerder wist een coureur drie ePrix achter elkaar te winnen. Robin Frijns kon zich geen moment mengen in de strijd om de topklasseringen: de Limburger startte als dertiende en kwam als veertiende over de meet.

Bij de start was iedereen in de top vier goed van zijn plek gekomen. Di Grassi leidde de race in zijn Abt-bolide. Vergne lag tweede voor Buemi en Oliver Turvey. Door het stilvallen van Adam Carroll in de Jaguar werd de race geneutraliseerd en bij de herstart viel Di Grassi terug. Di Grassi werd gepasseerd door Buemi, Vergne en Prost, maar wist zich in de slotfase van de race nog op te werken naar de laatste podiumplaats.

Voor Jaguar viel een hoopgevende kwalificatie in duigen. Nadat eerder Adam Carroll al moest opgeven, maakte stalgenoot Mitch Evans de fout door te hard te rijden tijdens de neutralisatie. Een zeker lijkende puntenpositie viel daardoor in duigen. De top zes werd gecompleteerd door Prost, Piquet en Duval. Oliver Turvey zakte gedurende de race steeds verder weg en eindigde op een teleurstellende negende positie. Jose Maria Lopez besloot zijn thuisrace op een tiende plaats, na achteraan te zijn gestart.

Vooraan wist Buemi zijn derde zege van het jaar te behalen. De Zwitser leidt het kampioenschap comfortabel met 75 punten. Di Grassi staat tweede met 46 punten, gevolgd door Prost.

De volgende ePrix is over zes weken. Plaats van handeling is dat het Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.

Wel mooi om te zien dat zoveel bekende F1 namen zich vermaken in de FE. Ik vind alleen dat die klasse wat 'energie' mist.

  Dat vind ik nog slechter dan het wisselen van die auto's ja. Oorspronkelijk een winterklasse en heb je 1 race in 4,5 maand tijd.. Tja..

  Inderdaad. Met zo'n warrige kalender wordt het nooit wat. Eerst twee races, dan een gat van twee maanden, dan weer 1 per maand, dan weer een maand niet, dan twee per maand en in juli plotseling vijf.

  Van mij niet. Totaal geen spectaculaire coureur die op zijn best snelheid bezit. Werd door RB niet voor niks aan de straat gezet en dat hij nu leuk presteert bij het beste team in een kinderklasje zegt mij helemaal niks. Met 220 over het rechte stuk is gewoon lachwekkend.

  Deels heb je natuurlijk gelijk , maar er rijden er in de F1 ook die niet spectaculair zijn en daar doet Buemi niet voor onder.
  En met 220 rijden , dat kunnen wij natuurlijk ook :-)

Die Andretti auto komen veel snelheid te kort. Zou dit jaar beter gaan maar zie er weinig van.
