Sirotkin verzekert zich van test voor Mahindra Racing

Voormalig Williams-coureur Sergey Sirotkin heeft zich verzekerd van een testrit voor het Formule E-team van Mahindra Racing. De Rus zal deelnemen aan de rookie-test voorafgaande aan de Marrakesh ePrix in Marokko.

Sirotkin was lang in gevecht voor het tweede stoeltje bij het Formule 1-team van Williams in 2019, maar hij legde het af tegen de Pool Robert Kubica, die na een afwezigheid van acht jaar terugkeert in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Sirotkin heeft zijn zinnen nu dus gezet op andere takken van de autosport.

"De Formule E is nu een van de snelst ontwikkelende kampioenschappen en er wordt hier op een erg hoog niveau gestreden", zegt Sirotkin tegenover FormulaSpy.

"Er treden steeds meer fabrikanten toe tot de Formule E, omdat ze ervan overtuigd zijn dat elektrische auto's een sterke toekomst hebben en er ligt hier veel potentieel. Meer technische oplossingen komen in deze auto's tevoorschijn en ze gaan snel vooruit."

"In 2016 heb ik al een Formule E-auto bestuurd, maar er is nu een nieuwe generatie auto's, dus het gaat interessant zijn om de verschillen te voelen." De 23-jarige Rus reed in 2016 al in een Formule E-auto, maar het zal voor Sirotkin de eerste keer zijn dat hij een Gen2-auto zal besturen.
