Nasr laat race in ePrix Rome schieten voor titelverdediging in IMSA

Felipe Nasr zal de ePrix van Rome aan zich voorbij laten gaan. De Braziliaan komt in datzelfde weekend in actie tijdens de IMSA-race in Long Beach, want in dat kampioenschap verdedigt hij in 2019 zijn titel.

Nasr werd begin februari aangekondigd als de nieuwe coureur van GEOX Racing, waar hij de vervanger is van Max Günther. Tijdens de laatste ePrix in Mexico zat de voormalig coureur van Sauber al achter het stuur van de elektrische bolide: hij eindigde de race op de teleurstellende negentiende positie. Ook de rest van het seizoen zou Nasr plaatsnemen in de bolide van GEOX Racing, maar er werd bij zijn aanstellen al wel een vraagteken gezet bij de ePrix van Rome.

Die race in Rome botst namelijk met de IMSA-race in Long Beach. In die klasse verdedigt Nasr samen met Eric Curran het kampioenschap bij de prototypes. Nu heeft de Braziliaan besloten om de race van de Formule E, die op 13 april gehouden wordt, te laten schieten. "De IMSA geniet mijn prioriteit. Ik zal de race in Rome laten schieten en ik moet zeggen dat het een druk jaar wordt. Ik wil heel graag mijn titel verdedigen en ik hou ervan om in het IMSA te rijden", lichtte Nasr zijn besluit toe bij Motorsport.com.

Wie Nasr gaat vervangen tijdens de ePrix van Rome, is nog niet bekend. Günther lijkt de belangrijkste kandidaat te zijn om zijn oude zitje eenmalig terug te krijgen. De Duitser is namelijk als test- en reservecoureur nog verbonden aan GEOX Racing.
