Button tweede in Super GT en pakt leiding in het WK

Jenson Button heeft samen met teamgenoot Naoki Yamamoto beslag gelegd op de 2e plaats bij de derde Super GT-race op Suzuka. De voormalig wereldkampioen behaalde hiermee zijn 2e podium van het seizoen.

Het was een steady weekend voor Button die in de kwalificatie beslag legde op een plek op de eerste rij. In een ietwat saaie race crashte voormalig McLaren en Renault-coureur Heikki Kovelainen in Degner 2. Deze crash zorgde voor een safety car-periode. Button inmiddels onder druk van Nick Cassidy, behield zijn 2e plaats. Tijdens zijn pitstop overhandigde hij de auto aan teamgenoot Yamamoto. Deze reed vervolgens de auto naar een 2e plaats.

Winnaars werden Takyua Izawa en Tomoki Nojiri. Nojiri was 2 jaar geleden nog teamgenoot van Stoffel Vandoorne in zijn Super Formula jaar. In het kampioenschap heeft de equipe van Button en Yamamoto de leiding genomen, zij hebben 1 punt voorsprong op de Italiaan Ronnie Quintarelli en zijn teamgenoot Tsugio Matsuda.
