Buurman sluit Asia Series af met punten, Tung gediskwalificeerd

Ho-Pin Tung heeft een wrange smaak aan het afgelopen weekend overgehouden. In de laatste race van de GP2 Asia Series finishte de coureur van Trident Racing voor de tweede keer van het seizoen in de punten. Tung eindigde als vijfde, één plek voor Yelmer Buurman die na race 1 op het circuit van Dubai nog op het podium stond. De auto van Tung bleek echter illegaal en hij werd gediskwalificeerd.

Hij legt uit: "Bij de technische controle van de wagens na de race werd bij mijn auto geconstateerd dat een 'skirt' aan de rechterkant iets te laag was. Omdat dit maar aan een kant was heeft mij dit geen voordeel opgeleverd in de vorm van meer down force. Maar, regels zijn regels en mijn Trident voldeed daar niet aan. Het is heel jammer dat na zulke goede resultaten in de wedstrijden een technisch euvel roet in het eten gooit."

Trust Team Arden kende een zeer succesvol weekend in Dubai. Buurman werd een keer derde en een keer zesde, teamgenoot Sebastien Buemi mocht tweemaal als tweede naar het podium. Marco Bonanomi schreef de slotrace op zijn naam. Het was zijn allereerste zege in de GP2. Kampioen Romain Grosjean haalde de finish van de laatste race niet door een crash.
