Pole position voor Pantano

Giorgio Pantano, leider in de WK-stand, vertrekt morgen vanaf pole-positie voor de eerste wedstrijd op Hockenheim. De Italiaan was sneller dan Romain Grosjean en Andreas Zuber. Op de vierde plaats start Sebastien Buemi, voor Luca di Grassi, Bruno Senna en Alvaro Parento.

Naarmate de kwalificatie vorderde, daalde de baantemperatuur. Pantanos concurrenten waren daarna niet meer in de gelegenheid om hun tijden veel scherper te stellen. Zuber, Senna, Pantano en Grosjean zetten hun snelle tijden neer in druk verkeer. Toen het rustiger werd op de baan bleef Pantano een ronde langer buiten en zette prompt de snelste tijd van de dag neer.

Eerder deze week berichtte F1today over Yelmer Buurman, die zijn zitje bij het team van Arden verloor aan de Italiaan Filippi. Buurmans opvolger, de nieuwe teamgenoot van Buemi, start als dertiende. Onze landgenoot Ho-Pin Tung (foto) start in zijn Trident Racing-bolide vanaf een zeventiende plek.

Later maakte de raceleiding bekend dat Kamui Kobayashi vijf plaatsen zal worden teruggezet op de startgrid. De Japanner onvangt de straf omdat hij Di Grassi zou hebben opgehouden tijdens diens snelle ronde. Kobayashi zal niet als achtste, maar als dertiende starten.
