Van der Garde kan goede startplek niet verzilveren

Voor Giedo van der Garde is de tweede race van het GP2 Asia Series-weekend op een teleurstelling uitgelopen. Door zijn zevende plek in race 1 mocht hij de tweede race op het circuit van Bahrein op de eerste startrij beginnen. Zover kwam het echter niet. Zijn auto wilde niet in de eerste versnelling voor de formatieronde en dus moest Van der Garde uit de pits starten. De veertiende positie was het maximaal haalbare.

Van der Garde zegt op zijn site: De versnellingsbak haperde en de auto wilde niet in de eerste versnelling. Ik werd naar de pits geduwd en begon dus helemaal achteraan. Ik heb nog wel wat mensen kunnen inhalen en dat was ook wel eens goed om mee te maken, maar ik had natuurlijk gewoon vooraan moeten rijden. De snelheid was prima, maar daar heb je niks aan als je achteraan rijdt. Ik ben nog opgeklommen naar de veertiende plaats. Ik baal hier enorm van.

Yelmer Buurman eindigde één plek voor Van der Garde. De winst in race 2 ging naar Sergio Perez, die daarmee zijn eerste GP2-zege boekte.
