Castroneves op pole na chaotische kwalificatie

Penske-coureur Helio Castroneves heeft de pole gepakt voor de IndyCar-race op het circuit van Long Beach in Los Angeles. De kwalificatie verliep chaotisch, met Will Power die aan het einde van de sessie een rode vlag veroorzaakte.

Door de rode vlag kregen de coureurs maar eens kans om te strijden om de pole. Power bleef door het incident steken op een zesde plek. De ronde van Castroneves was drie tiende sneller dan Scott Dixon, die iets sneller reed dan Simon Pagenaud. Tony Kanaan en Juan Pablo Montoya reden de vierde en vijfde tijd.

Het is voor Castroneves de tweede keer op rij dat hij pole haalt dit seizoen. Naast de rode vlag waren er ook problemen met de tijdwaarneming waardoor er wat gekke dingen gebeurden in de sessie. De race wordt vanavond verreden.
