Bourdais snelste in eerste training Barber Motorsports Park

Voormalig Toro Rosso-coureur Sebastian Bourdais heeft de snelste tijd gereden in de eerste vrije training ter voorbereiding op de IndyCar-race op Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama. De Fransman kende problemen met de remmen van zijn bolide, maar wist desondanks de snelste tijd te rijden.

De tijd van Bourdais was iets meer dan een tiende sneller dan Jack Hacksworth en maar twee tiende langzamer dan de pole position van vorig jaar. Bourdais kende een lastige start van de sessie, maar wist zijn auto steeds verder te verbeteren.

De auto's met Honda-motoren hebben het vooralsnog prima voor elkaar, Honda eindigde met vijf auto's bij de eerste zes. Vorige week kende Honda nog een moeilijk weekend op het stratencircuit va Long Beach. Simon Pagenaud, de leider in het kampioenschap, begon rustig aan het weekend en eindigde als achtste.

Alleen Simon Pagenaud was van de toppers in de top tien te vinden. De overige rijders van Penske en Chip Ganassi deden het rustig aan en eindigden allen buiten de top tien. De training werd verreden onder zonnige omstandigheden, maar de weersvoorspellingen geven voor de tweede training een kans van 60 procent op regen aan.
