Servia laatste toevoeging Indy500-veld

Oriol Servia is de laatste deelnemer die is toegevoegd aan het startveld voor de Indy500, die op 29 mei voor de honderdste keer wordt verreden. De 41-jarige Spanjaard zal uitkomen voor het team van Sam Schmidt en Ric Peterson. Servia doet voor de achtste keer mee aan de Indy500.

Servia heeft dit jaar al met een actuele IndyCar-bolide gereden, tijdens de seizoensopener in St.Petersburg viel hij in voor de geblesseerde Will Power van Penske. Servia is blij met de kans die hij krijgt: "Het is heel bijzonder dat ik mee mag doen met de honderdste Indy500 ! Ik wil Schmidt Peterson Motorsports bedanken voor deze kans. Ik wil mee kunnen doen om de overwinning en met dit team heb ik zeker een kans."

Servia deed zeven keer eerder mee aan de Indy500. Bij zijn debuut in 2002 wist hij zich niet te kwalificeren, in 2008 kwalificeerde Servia op plek vijfentwintig en werd hij elfde. In 2011 behaalde Servia zijn beste resultaat in de kwalificatie met plek drie, een jaar later werd hij vierde.

Servia is een veteraan in de Amerikaanse openwielracerij. de Spanjaarde finishte een keer als tweede in het voormalige ChampCar-kampioenschap. De voorbereidingen op de Indy500 beginnen op maandag 16 mei.
