Chaves bemachtigt zitje voor Indy 500

Gabby Chaves vervangt Luca Filippi bij Dale Coyne Racing in de belangrijke maand mei. Komend weekend staat de IndyCar-race op het 'gewone' circuit van de Indianapolis Motor Speedway op het programma. Twee weken later vindt de beroemde Indy 500 op de oval plaats.

Chaves, een 22-jarige Colombiaan, maakte vorig jaar namens Bryan Herta Autosport zijn debuut in de Indy 500. Hij eindigde als zestiende en beste rookie. "Wat kan ik hierop zeggen? Ik ben opgewonden om weer deel te nemen aan de Indy 500. De periode zonder races heeft lang genoeg geduurd."

"Mijn hele loopbaan stond ik bij het begin van het seizoen ergens op de grid, dit is voor het eerst dat ik geen plekje had weten te bemachtigen. Er liepen veel gesprekken, maar er kwam niks van de grond. Daardoor waardeer ik wel extra dat ik terug ben en kan ik nog meer genieten van het racen."
