Racewereld treurt na dood van Carl Haas

De legendarische teameigenaar Carl Haas (geen connectie met Haas F1 Team, red.) is op 29 juni op 86-jarige leeftijd overleden in een buitenwijk in Chicago. Dat heeft zijn renstal donderdag bekendgemaakt. "De fantastische reis van Carl Haas is vredig geëindigd op 29 juni bij hem thuis, omringd door zijn familie", valt te lezen op de website van Carl Haas Automobile Imports.

Haas leed aan Alzheimer. Hij richtte zijn eerste renstal in de jaren vijftig van de vorige eeuw op en nam ermee deel aan de Formule 1, NASCAR, ChampCar en IndyCar. Vooral in dat laatste kampioenschap stapelden de overwinningen en de titels zich op. In totaal won Haas met zijn team 140 races en 16 titels.

"Het woord legende wordt vaak onnodig gebruikt, maar bij Carl Haas staat het wel op zijn plaats", liet McLaren-teambaas Ron Dennis weten. En Michael Andretti voegde toe: "Carl was een icoon in de autosport en het stemt me droevig om kennis te nemen van zijn overlijden. Hij heeft een van de meest geweldige teams uit de geschiedenis opgebouwd en ik ben trots dat ik daar deel van uit heb mogen maken."

Nee , wel met Bourdais, (met McDonald's sponsoring, deze foto zal wel tussen 2004 en 2007 gemaakt zijn (Bourdais had nog geen McDonald's sponsoring in 2003 )

    Overigens, naast dit treurige nieuws, voor Nederland is er positief Indycar nieuws :

    Frijns gaat de 21ste testen in Mid-Ohio voor het Indycar team van Andretti.
