Dixon pakt eerste pole van het seizoen in Toronto

Scott Dixon heeft zich in Toronto naar de pole position getraind. De Nieuw-Zeelander pakte zijn eerste pole van het seizoen door Helio Castroneves af te troeven. Ook was het de eerste pole van het seizoen voor het Chip Ganassi-team.

Dixon reed een rondetijd van 59:9073 over de Canadese straten en was daarmee nipt sneller dan Castroneves, die lange tijd bovenaan stond. Kampioenschapsleider Simon Pagenaud zette zijn auto op de tweede startrij neer met plaats drie, voor de derde Penske van Will Power. Vijfde was voormalig Formule 1-coureur Sebastien Bourdais, vlak voor thuisrijder James Hinchcliffe op de zesde startplek.

Juan Pablo Montoya kon het tempo van zijn Penske-collega's niet volgend en start vanavond als negende. De tweede Ganassi-coureur, Tony Kanaan, vinden we nog verder naar achteren op de grid: twaalfde. Vanavond om 21:00 uur Nederlandse tijd volgt de race.
