SPM sleept RC Enerson's vader voor de rechter

De vader van voormalig Indy Lights-coureur RC Enerson wordt door Sam Schmidt voor de rechter gesleept. De reden daarvoor is de contractbreuk die vader en zoon gepleegd hebben, zo meldt RACER.

Afgelopen winter sloot Neil Enerson een contract voor zijn zoon af met Schmidt Peterson Motorsport voor een volledige Indy Lights-campagne. Na de wedstrijd op Indianapolis hield Enerson het echter voor gezien, om zo geld te sparen voor een IndyCar-debuut. Dat debuut komt komend weekend op Mid-Ohio voor Dale Coyne Racing, maar Schmidt is het niet eens met de gang van zaken en zegt dat Enerson senior hem nog een half miljoen dollar verschuldigd is.

Schmidt probeert hiermee niet het debuut van RC Enerson te dwarsbomen. "RC heeft hier niets mee te maken en ik wil zijn carrière niet verstoren. Het gaat om een zakendeal. Wij hebben de zaken betaald in afwachting van het geld van meneer Enerson, maar hij wil niet betalen. Dat is erg jammer."

"In de twintig jaar dat ik in het paddock rondloop, heb ik nog nooit iemand naar het gerecht moeten slepen om iets op te lossen. Dat is zonde, want wij denken dat RC een groot talent is en wij vinden dat hij fulltime in de IndyCar thuishoort. Maar we zijn nu aan het eind van juli en we proberen de zaak op een normale manier op te lossen, maar mails en voicemails worden niet beantwoord. Ze willen niet om de tafel om het zakelijk af te ronden, dus dit is de laatste oplossing."

Wat Schmidt vooral steekt, is dat het geld nu ingelegd wordt bij een ander team. "Wij moeten nog geld krijgen, maar iemand reageert niet en brengt het geld naar een ander team. Dat slaat nergens op. Het is frustrerend en ik heb dit nog nooit eerder hoeven doen, maar er wordt hier wel een bedrijf gerund. Wij hebben alles gedaan wat wij zouden doen en zij besloten om een andere richting te kiezen, maar je moet je wel aan je verplichtingen houden."
