Dixon met minimale marge op pole op Watkins Glen

Na alle drie de vrije trainingen als snelste te hebben afgesloten, heeft drievoudig IndyCar-kampioen Scott Dixon ook de pole position voor zich opgeëist voor de IndyCar-race op het circuit van Watkins Glen. De Nieuw-Zeelander was nipt sneller dan Will Power in de Penske.

Power reed in de kwalificatie een tijd die geen recht had om een plekje bij de 'Fast Six', de zes coureurs die uiteindelijk de strijd om pole beslissen. Omdat Mikhail Aleshin een andere deelnemer had opgehouden, mocht Power alsnog meedoen.

Power wond er geen doekjes om en reed een tijd die maar 0,0483 seconde langzamer was dan Dixon. Sebastien Bourdais en Helio Castroneves sluiten aan op de tweede rij, terwijl Kanaan en een verrassend sterke Max Chilton plek vijf en zes voor zich opeisten.

Simon Pagenaud, de leider in het kampioenschap, kende een lastige sessie. De Fransman wist zich te plaatsen bij de coureurs die de strijd om pole aangingen en start als zevende. De sessie verliep chaotisch vanwege het feit dat coureurs hun snelste tijd geannuleerd zagen worden vanwege diverse oorzaken.

De IndyCar-race op Watkins Glen start vanavond om 20:30 uur. De race is live te volgen via het officiële YouTube-kanaal van IndyCars.
