Penske neemt eind volgende maand beslissing over toekomst Montoya

Na vice-kampioen te zijn geworden in 2015 kende voormalig Formule 1-coureur Juan Pablo Montoya in 2016 een matig seizoen in de IndyCar. Waar teamgenoot Simon Pagenaud zijn eerste titel pakte en Will Power vice-kampioen werd, moest Montoya het doen met een teleurstellende achtste plaats in het kampioenschap. Zijn werkgever Penske weet dan ook nog niet of Montoya volgend seizoen actief is voor het team.

Montoya maakte in 2015 zijn terugkeer in IndyCar na een aantal jaren NASCAR te hebben gereden. De Colombiaan deed meteen van zich spreken met de winst in de Indy500 en een tweede plaats in het kampioenschap. Het contract van Montoya en dienst toekomst in IndyCar is een belangrijk onderwerp van gesprek geweest de afgelopen weken.

In een verklaring laat Roger Penske het volgende weten: "We hebben nog geen besluit genomen over onze vier coureurs voor volgend seizoen. Ik verwacht dat we het binnen nu en vier of vijf weken bekend kunnen maken."

Montoya laat zelf weten de beslissing rustig af te wachten en er vertrouwen in te hebben dat hij ook volgend jaar onderdeel uit maakt van het Penske-team.
