IndyCar laat de 'halo' sowieso links liggen

De IndyCar kijkt net als de Formule 1 naar manieren om de hoofden van de rijders beter te beschermen. De Amerikaanse raceklasse zal in elk geval niet voor de veel bekritiseerde 'halo' kiezen. Dat is gezien de races op ovals hoe dan ook geen optie voor de IndyCar.

Dat verkondigde Mark Miles, directeur van IndyCar-moederbedrijf Hulman & Co. "De halo is sowieso geen mogelijkheid voor ons. We hebben circuits met gekantelde bochten en met de halo kun je dan niet uit de auto kijken. We zijn wel zeer geïnteresseerd in de ontwikkeling van een vorm van bescherming voor de hoofden van de coureurs. Het is veel waarschijnlijker dat wij een soort van windscherm introduceren dan de halo."

De internationale autosportbond FIA heeft de halo uitvoerig getest en is vastberaden om het systeem in 2018 te introduceren in de Formule 1, al behoort het door Red Bull bedachte 'aeroscreen' ook nog tot de mogelijkheden. Dat systeem heeft wel een behoorlijke testachterstand ten opzichte van de halo.

    de HALO komt er toch niet, wordt weggestemd door de teams en ik vermoed zelfs door een groot deel van de coureurs.

      De FIA zal de teams en coureurs heus wel om advies vragen, maar de FIA beslist uiteindelijk over de veligheid en niemand anders.

      onzin, ze hebben voor dit besluit akkoord van de strategy group nodig, tenzij er een accuut gevaar is voor de coureurs maar dat kan niemand hardmaken.

      De beveiliging van boven lijkt me niet wenselijk op deze manier (insluiting vd piloot in geval van crash opzij/op z'n kop)
