Bourdais mist Indy500 vanwege botbreuken door zware crash

Sebastien Bourdais zal de Indy500 moeten missen vanwege het letsel dat hij opliep door een zware crash tijdens de kwalificatie voor de Indy500. De Fransman was als snelste onderweg, maar de auto begon in de derde van vier kwalificatieronden te glijden. Bourdais probeerde de spin op te vangen, maar schoot rechtdoor de vangrail in.

Bourdais kon niet zelfstandig uit de zwaar beschadigde bolide stappen, maar verloor nooit het bewustzijn. Uiteindelijk is Bourdais naar het ziekenhuis gebracht, waar hij gisteravond nog geopereerd is. Bourdais liep breuken op in zijn heupen en bekken. Dale Coyne heeft laten weten op zoek te gaan naar een vervanger. Kanshebbers voor het stoeltje zijn Townsend Bell, Ryan Briscoe en Stefan Wilson. Wilson is het jongere broertje van wijlen Justin Wilson.
