Bourdais rest van het jaar uitgeschakeld

Sebastien Bourdais komt dit seizoen niet meer in actie in de IndyCar Series. De Fransman was het jaar nog zo voortvarend begonnen met een zege in St Petersburg, maar in de eerste kwalificatie voor de Indy 500 ging het mis. Bourdais knalde op hoge snelheid in de muur en raakte gewond.

Hij liep botbreuken aan heup en bekken op en is de rest van het jaar uitgeschakeld. Zijn team Dale Coyne Racing heeft James Davison aangesteld als zijn vervanger voor de Indy 500 van komend weekend. Bekijk hieronder de beelden van het heftige ongeluk van Bourdais in de kwalificatie:

    Die eerste klap de muur in is bijna haaks. IndyCar is vooral op dit soort banen wel een stuk gevaarlijker dan de F1.

    Zegt wel wat over de constructie van de bolides dat je met zo'n snelheid en beroerde hoek er 'maar' afkomt met botbreuken

      In de F1 kan je nog vaak corrigeren. Als je niet kan corrigeren moet men vaak nog langs een grindbak voordat men op een bandenstapels knalt.

      In Indy 500 is
      1. Foutje en je knalt omdat er geen uitloopstroken/gridbakken zijn.
      2. Het is beton ipv banden stapels
      3. Als je knalt is het vaak ook > 300 km/h

    Pff, dat was een harde klap.

    Ik vond het vooral interessant hoe één van de marshals op de SAFER-wall (vergelijkbaar met TECPRO-barriers) zat te meppen met een voorhamer. Geen beweging in te krijgen, terwijl Bourdais' auto er een paar minuten eerder toch een behoorlijke deuk in heeft geslagen. Dat geeft aan hoe enorm de krachten zijn als je met die snelheid crasht.

    Dat is mooi klote voor hem, hij had een goede kans de indy 500 te winnen. Nu komt er dan ook nog bij dat hij voor langere tijd is uitgeschakeld.

    Nare arrogante eikel die Bourdais, maar dit gun je niemand. Bijna frontaal op die snelheid de muur in, zo bezien valt het letsel vanzelf mee. Los van de stevige constructie van de auto, helpt de waanzinnig goed conditie natuurlijk ook mee.

      Mijn favoriet is het ook niet, maar zoals je zeg, it gun je niemand. Vaak nogal een jankert. Zn vroegere rivaliteit met Paul Tracy was super. Tracy nam geen shit en rostte er m desnoods af. Was prachtig. Herinner me nog wel dat Bourdais op een gegeven moment Tracy na de zoveelste smaenkomst een duw gaf. dat dorst ie alleen omdat Tracy op dat moment een voorwaardelijke straf had en op zn tellen moest passen. Tracy had m alle hoeken laten zien vermoed ik. Die heeft daarna nog flink lopen gallen en schroomde niet om het publiek in Canada ook nog even lekker te provoceren.

      Brabham-BT50 die Paul Tracy was echt de grootste klootzak die ooit achter het stuur van een auto heeft plaatsgenomen, die hadden ze al na één seizoen levenslang zijn racelicentie af moeten nemen. Wat een walgelijke vent was dat zeg.

    Sjeez, wat een klapperd is dat. Snap ik dat het een afgeschreven jaar is, ik denk dat hij nog van geluk mag spreken dat het hierbij is gebleven.... Hopelijk herstelt hij snel!
