IndyCar presenteert nieuwe auto voor 2018

De IndyCar Series stapt volgend seizoen over op een nieuw chassis. De Amerikaanse klasse heeft samen met Dallara een universele aero-kit voor zowel de Honda-teams als voor de Chevrolet-teams ontwikkeld. Vandaag begint het officiële testprogramma op de Indianapolis Motor Speedway, met veteranen Juan Pablo Montoya en Oriol Servia als testrijders. Gisteren vond de presentatie van de nieuwe bolide plaats. Zo ziet de nieuwe IndyCar-auto voor 2018 en de jaren daarna eruit:

      In de Indy gebeuren veel meer ongelukken maar daar begrijpen ze tenminste dat racen gevaarlijk is en je er zelf voor kiest.gewoon open racen geen gelul.

      Indycar is zelf aan het kijken naar cockpitbescherming en men verwacht binnen nu en 3 jaar een systeem te hebben ontwikkelt die op de autos kan komen.

    In Amerika snappen ze ten minste dat het ongeluk van Justin Wilson een freak accident was en houden ze de auto in de klassieke vorm terwijl Indycar racing zelfs nog veel gevaarlijker is dan Formule 1. Wat mij betreft gaat de Formule 1 zichzelf loskoppelen van de bemoeizieke FIA en door onder een andere naam.

      haha hopelijk niet...maar er moet en manier zijn om de FIA aan te pakken zodat ze geen kans meer krijgen idiote voorstellen door te drukken die de sport belachelijk maken.

    De wagen op de foto is de Indy 500 uitvoering en niet de circuitauto, die ziet er heel anders uit wat vleugels aangaat. De achtervleugel is bij de circuituitvoering veel hoger en de voorvleugel lijkt dan meer op die van een F1 auto.

      Het is de SuperSpeedway configuratie. Niet specifiek voor de Indy 500 ;)
      Ook op Phoenix, Texas, Pocono en Gateway zal hiermee worden geraced. In Iowa zal de configuratie iets anders zijn omdat dat geen superspeedway betreft.

      Je hebt gelijk, was een beetje kort door de bocht, maar ik ging ervan uit dat veel mensen niet veel verder kijken dan de 500 en de andere superspeedways misschien niet eens kennen. Sowieso is er nog een hele groep die denkt dat Indycar synoniem is met ovalracen terwijl in werkelijkheid de ovals verreweg de minderheid vormen.
