Newgarden verschaft zich best mogelijke uitgangspositie voor seizoensfinale Sonoma

Penske-coureur Josef Newgarden start de seizoensfinale van het Indycar-seizoen vanaf pole-position. De Amerikaan gaat vanavond samen met Scott Dixon, Castroneves en Pagenaud uitmaken wie de nieuwe kampioen wordt in het kampioenschap. Newgarden heeft dankzij de pole position nog maar een punt achterstand op kampioenschapsleider Scott Dixon.

In de kwalificatie was Newgarden marginaal sneller dan teamgenoot Will Power. Penske maakte er een complete top vier van dankzij Castroneves op de derde plaats en Pagenaud op plaats vier. Kampioenschapsleider Scott Dixon had het lastig, de viervoudig kampioen start de race als zesde. Zoals altijd zat het veld weer bijzonder dicht bij elkaar: het verschil tussen Newgarden en de als laatst startende Carlos Munoz bedroeg nog geen twee seconden.

De race wordt verreden in de nacht van zondag op maandag en is live te volgen via het Racing-kanaal van Ziggo Sport.
