Cosworth in gesprek over levering motoren vanaf 2020

Motorfabrikant Cosworth is in gesprek met de organisatie van de IndyCar Series over een terugkeer als motorleverancier in de Amerikaanse raceklasse. Cosworth leverde tot 2008 de motoren aan de ChampCar-klasse, die in 2008 op de fles ging. Mocht Cosworth toegelaten worden dan zal het op zijn vroegst in 2020 motoren mogen leveren.

Cosworth is vanaf 2018 al wel betrokken bij IndyCar: de Britse fabrikant levert de stuurtjes voor de nieuwe IndyCar-bolides die vanaf dit jaar hun debuut maken. Bruce Wood, directeur van de motorenafdeling van Cosworth kijkt uit naar een volledige terugkeer in de grootste raceklasse voor Formule-wagens in Amerika: "Cosworth heeft een fantastische geschiedenis in de Amerikaanse racerij en zou graag willen terugkeren. We zijn op zoek naar een partner die ons meehelpt onze droom te verwezenlijken."

In de IndyCar Series is het verplicht om samen te werken met een Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), anders wordt een leverancier niet toegelaten. Een OEM houdt in dat Cosworth moet samenwerken met andere leveranciers voor het leveren van onderdelen, bijvoorbeeld een leverancier die ook de remonderdelen levert in de sport.

    Dan lijkt mij dat Cosworth een terugkeer in de F1 niet als hoofdpunt op de agenda heeft staan. Drie verschillende series van motoren voorzien lijkt mij wat erg veel.

      De inspanningen voor Indy zullen waarschijnlijk vanuit de US vestiging van Cosworth geleid worden en een eventuele F1 deelneming (samen met Aston Martin) vanuit de UK.
      Voorzie niet zoveel conflicten....

    Zo een aero scherm vind ik niet eens heel lelijk, en lijkt mij nog veiliger dan de Halo. Want hoe ga je uit je auto klimmen met Halo als je op de kop bent beland? Iets wat ik me al maanden afvraag.
