Hunter-Reay sluit eerste dag nieuw seizoen als snelste af

Andretti Autosport-coureur Ryan Hunter-Reay heeft de eerste dag van het nieuwe IndyCar-seizoen als snelste afgesloten. Op het stratencircuit van St.Petersburg in Florida was de Amerikaan net iets sneller dan James Hinchcliffe. De eerste training werd verrassend als snelste afgesloten door debutant Matheus Leist uit Brazilië.

Zoals altijd in de IndyCar Series zaten de tijden weer dicht bij elkaar. Omdat de door Honda en Chevrolet aangedreven auto's nu hetzelfde aerodynamische pakket gebruiken wordt verwacht dat de competitie in 2018 nog intensiever zal worden. Verrassingen waren er dus zeker op de eerste dag: oud DTM-coureur Robert Wickens kende een sterke dag en eindigde keurig als zevende.

Grootste tegenvallers van de dag waren Carlin-coureur Charlie Kimball en Max Chilton. Het duo kon in de testsessies redelijk meekomen, maar eiindigde de eerste dag in de achterhoede. In onderstaande video zie je de hoogtepunten van de eerste dag van het nieuwe IndyCar-seizoen
