'Laguna Seca keert terug op IndyCar-kalender'

De IndyCar keert mogelijk in 2019 terug op WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. De gemeenteraad van Monterey County, waar het circuit ligt, moet de plannen nog goedkeuren, maar wel maakten ze de plannen van het circuit en de organisatie van IndyCar openbaar.

Tussen 1983 en 2004 waren de IndyCar en de C ART/Champ Cars al te gast op Laguna Seca. Sindsdien wordt de IndyCar-race in Noord-Californië vaak gereden op Sonoma Raceway, maar het contract met die baan loopt na dit seizoen af, waardoor de weg vrijkomt voor Laguna Seca om terug te keren op de kalender. In grote lijnen zijn de directie van het circuit en de organisatie van het kampioenschap al akkoord over het contract, alleen de gemeenteraad moet zich er nog over buigen.

In eerste instantie keert Laguna Seca voor drie jaar terug op de kalender: tussen 2019 en 2021. De fee die het circuit moet betalen is 1,2 miljoen dollar, maar alleen als het IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in het weekend vooraf gehouden wordt. Is dat niet het geval, dan betaalt Laguna Seca een fee van 1,5 miljoen dollar. Daarnaast komen drie klassen uit de Road to Indy gratis mee naar het circuit, dat wel op enkele punten de veiligheidsvoorzieningen moet verbeteren.

  Ik heb er wel eens gereden, Zeker een mooie baan maar dat wordt dan wel maximale downforce anders vrees ik dat ze gaan vliegen op de heuvel.

  Geweldige baan, maar niet voor F1. Te kort, te krap etc. Net als Zandvoort zo'n mooie baan die niet geschikt is voor F1 en die je ook niet moet willen aanpassen voor F1, dan vergooi je al het karakter van de baan.

  Wellus... da's toch prachtig in een f1. Man... altijd dat beargumenteren... laat me toch ff wegdromen voordat we weer op k*tbanen racen zoals Hockenheim en Paul Ricard.

Ik heb deze baan afgelopen week ook al genoemd als eventuele vervanger voor Miami maar het is geen stratencircuit dus zal voor LM ook geen optie zijn.
