Rossi domineert IndyCar-race op Road America

Alexander Rossi heeft de weinig enerverende IndyCar-race op Road America gewonnen. Nabij Elkhart Lake had de Andretti Autosport-coureur ruim een halve minuut voorsprong op Will Power en Josef Newgarden.

Colton Herta startte de race vanaf pole position, maar meteen kwam hij onder druk te staan van Rossi. De rookie moest uiteindelijk in bocht 3 zijn meerdere erkennen in de meer ervaren Rossi, die meteen daarna een gat wist te slaan en nooit meer om hoefde te kijken. Herta viel vervolgens terug naar P3 en zag problemen met zijn brandstofpomp hem nog verder terugwerpen.

Weinig geluk voor Herta, Rossi ijzersterk

De 19-jarige Herta, die eerder dit seizoen verrassend de race op het Circuit of the Americas won, kwam na een intense strijd in de laatste ronde als achtste over de finish. Dat gebeurde ver achter Rossi, die de leiding geen enkel moment in gevaar zag komen en zodoende zijn tweede zege van het seizoen 2019 pakte.

De Amerikaan moest ruim een halve minuut wachten voordat hij wist wie de tweede positie pakte. Dat werd uiteindelijk Power. De Penske-coureur stond die positie alleen tijdens de pitstops af, hoewel teamgenoot en kampioenschapsleider Newgarden de hele race wel in de buurt was. Graham Rahal bekroonde een solide race met de vierde positie, nadat hij zich al op P5 had gekwalificeerd.

De vijfde positie op Road America ging enigszins verrassend naar Scott Dixon. De Nieuw-Zeelander is altijd snel, maar werd in de eerste ronde nog achterstevoren getikt door Ryan Hunter-Reay. Daardoor moest hij zich helemaal vanaf de laatste positie terugknokken naar voren. James Hinchcliffe en Felix Rosenqvist eindigden op de zesde en zevende positie, voor Herta, Simon Pagenaud en Takuma Sato op P10.

Race was ook wat minder boeiend maar het is gewoon veel minder complex en het oogt 10x leuker als F1. Twee soorten banden die gewoon goed degraderen. Veel meer werken in de auto. Fouten worden afgestraft. Circuits waar je ballen voor moet hebben.

Race was ook wat minder boeiend maar het is gewoon veel minder complex en het oogt 10x leuker als F1. Twee soorten banden die gewoon goed degraderen. Veel meer werken in de auto. Fouten worden afgestraft. Circuits waar je ballen voor moet hebben.
Veel situaties worden als race incident afgewimpeld. Meer actie. Minder grote gaten tussen teams. Goed dat laatste is logisch. In F1 gaat het om de auto. En je moet het zelf bouwen.

  Eens dat Indy het goed voor elkaar heeft met banden, straffen en circuits maar er is wel een groot nadeel. De auto's zijn belachelijk simpel. Wel hebben ze goed vuile lucht aangepakt hier. volgen kan door en door en wat vooral knap is van Rossi's optreden... Ongeveer de helft van het veld heeft hetzelfde pakket, de andere helft heeft een vergelijkbaar pakket die niet onder doet (andere motor) en nog rijd hij 20+ weg. Zeer indrukwekkend en in mijn ogen de enige Amerikaan die op dit moment in F1 zou moeten rijden.

  wagens zijn idd 'belachelijk' simpel in vergelijking tot f1, maar de f1 is een uiterste, er zitten nog een hoop gradaties tussen dus van mij mogen ze in de f1 best wat compromissen sluiten, minder complex om het racen te bevorderen.
  Indycar oogt in ieder geval op alle fronten beter dan F1

  Je ziet er ook wel aan dat gelijkwaardige auto’s geen garantie is voor minder verschil. Zoveel spannender dan een F1 race was het niet. Mooie baan trouwens, Road America
