Karam en Daly voor Carlin in Iowa - Carpenter geeft Karam 'The Finger' in 2015

Sage Karam en Conor Daly zullen dit weekend voor Carlin aan de start staan tijdens de Iowa 300, dit heeft het Britse-team bevestigd.

Daly maakte tijdens de Indianapolis 500 zijn opwachting voor Andretti Autosport en zat tijdens de race in Texas voor het eerst in de Carlin-auto. Carlin bevestigde in die tijd dat Max Chilton zich had teruggetrokken van alle oval-races in 2019.

Karam had zijn eerste uitstapje voor het team in Toronto en stond hiermee voor het eerst sinds 2015 op een road-circuit aan de start. Karam reed de Indianapolis 500 voor Dreyer and Reinbold Racing, het team waar hij de afgelopen jaren met hulp van Gas Monkey Garage actief voor was tijdens de 'Greatest Specatcle on Earth'.

"We waren erg onder de indruk van Sage's progressie tijdens het weekend in Toronto. Hij heeft de bereidheid om te leren en zich snel aan te passen", vertelde Trevor Carlin.

"Het feit dat hij sinds 2015 niet meer op een road-course gereden heeft en nog steeds in staat was om vol vertrouwen de pits uit te komen en zich elke sessie kon verbeteren was indrukwekkend."

Zowel Karam als Daly hebben race-ervaring op de Iowa Speedway. Karam eist zijn eerste en tot nu toe enige podiumplaats op het circuit op in 2015 toen hij voor Ganassi Racing reed. Daly heeft twee starts achter zijn naam staan, in 2016 reed hij voor Dale Coyne Racing en in 2017 voor A.J. Foyt Enterprises.

Karam kende in 2015 op Iowa een wheel-to-wheel gevecht met Ed Carpenter, na afloop van de race was Carpenter zo boos op Karam dat hij verhaal ging halen. Bekijk de video hieronder:
