Rinus VeeKay zevende in laatste vrije training van seizoen

In de straten van St. Petersburg, Florida, was vandaag de eerste en enige vrije training van dit weekend in de IndyCar-series. Rinus VeeKay bezette de zevende plaats.

Update 18.25, training voorbij

De IndyCar-coureurs hadden kort tijd om zich voor te bereiden op de kwalificatie en race. VeeKay zette pas op het laatst een tijd in de top tien en werd zevende. De Hoofddoper kon zijn tijd niet meer verbeteren door een rode vlag. De Ed Carpenter Racing - coureur reed een tijd van 1.01.612. Zijn directe concurrent voor het debutantenkampioenschap, Alex Palou, eindigde voor hem op plaats drie.

De snelste ronde was van Colton Herta met een 1.01.3106. Titelverdediger Josef Newgarden en tweede in de stand pakte de achtste tijd en kampioenschapsleider Scott Dixon pakte de zestiende tijd. Het verschil in posities geeft een vertekend beeld. Tussen de nummer één en laatst zit maar één seconde en twee tienden.

Dit weekend is de laatste race van het IndyCar-seizoen en Rinus VeeKay kan Rookie Of The Year worden in de wedstrijd van zondag. Vanavond rond 21.00 Nederlandse tijd is de kwalificatie.
