Ryan Hunter-Reay blijft bij Andretti Autosport

Ryan Hunter-Reay komt ook komend IndyCar-seizoen uit voor het team van Andretti Autosport. De kampioen van 2012 staat aan de vooravond van zijn vijftiende jaargang in de Amerikaanse raceklasse. Daarmee is de 40-jarige Amerikaan een van de meest doorgewinterde rijders op de grid.

De verwachting is dat Andretti Autosport in 2021 in totaal vijf auto's aan de start brengt. Naast Hunter-Reay zijn eerder al Alexander Rossi en Colton Herta bevestigd. Hunter-Reay dankt zijn nieuwe contract vooral aan zijn constante prestaties. De Indy 500-winnaar uit 2014 finishte in 2020 slechts één keer op het podium, maar hij eindigde in het kampioenschap wel vlak achter Rossi in de top tien.

"Ik ben gretig om weer aan de slag te gaan en vereerd om DHL en Andretti Autosport komend seizoen weer te mogen vertegenwoordigen in de IndyCar", reageerde Hunter-Reay. "Ik wil niets liever dan een tweede Indy 500-zege en een tweede IndyCar-titel aan mijn palmares toevoegen. 2020 was een apart seizoen en ik ben nog niet klaar met de IndyCar. Voor 2021 richten we ons op het optimaal benutten van de potentie en snelheid die we vorig jaar al hadden."
