Zere biceps voor Romain Grosjean na eerste IndyCar-test

Romain Grosjean kroop gisteren in een auto van Dale Coyne Racing voor zijn eerste testdag in de IndyCar. De Fransman was een van de twaalf coureurs op Barber Motorsports Park, waar Rinus van Kalmthout de snelste tijd liet noteren. Grosjean eindigde op een seconde en voelde wel dat een IndyCar-wagen veel fysieker is dan een Formule 1-bolide.

"Na mijn eerste run kreeg ik al last van zere biceps, dus toen wist ik gelijk hoe het ervoor stond", vertelde hij aan IndyCar.com. "Je voelt de auto echt, je rijdt meer met je rijstijl wat betreft de manier waarop je remt en stuurt en dat soort dingen. Je kan verschillende lijnen hanteren, terwijl je in de Formule 1 door de werking van de aerodynamica gedwongen bent de ideale lijn aan te houden."

Grosjean spinde wel een keer en eindigde in de grindbak. "Toen ik remde, ging ik ook voorzichtig alweer op het gas. Dat is wat je doet in snelle bochten. Maar met een mechanisch differentieel opent dat juist het differentieel en daardoor verlies je grip. In de Formule 1 stabiliseert dit trucje juist de auto. Het was een leerervaring, daarna heb ik het niet meer zo gedaan", aldus Grosjean.

Het ging goed, maar niet pijnvrij. Grosjean had nog wel wat last, met name van zijn verbrande linkerhand. Vooral het handschoenen aan en uit doen deed zeer, deelde hij aan het blad Formule 1 mede. "Daarom hou ik de linkerhandschoen nu soms aan. Dan blijft mijn hand ook mooi uit de zon. Het ging goed met mijn linkerhand, maar niet perfect. Ik heb een mooie, grote blaar op mijn linkerduim. Niet fijn, al doet het gelukkig geen pijn. Ik was wat voorzichtig op de kerbstones, maar het remde me niet af."
