Rosenqvist mist tweede race in Detroit na hevige crash op zaterdag

Felix Rosenqvist neemt vandaag niet deel aan de tweede IndyCar-wedstrijd in Detroit na de gevolgen van een zware crash een dag eerder. Rosenqvist hield wonder boven wonder geen grote verwondingen aan de klapper over, maar blijft voor de zekerheid een extra nachtje in het ziekenhuis.

De 29-jarige coureur wordt vervangen door een oude bekende van het Arrow McLaren SP-team: Oliver Askew. Die reed in 2020 twaalf races voor de renstal uit Woking.

McLaren verklapt oorzaak niet

Arrow McLaren SP zegt in een statement de oorzaak gevonden te hebben na grondig onderzoek. Het team spreekt over een 'uniek' technisch mankement. Wat dit unieke probleem precies inhoudt, wil de renstal nog niet openbaar maken. Wel heeft McLaren vertelt dat een rijdersfout, problemen met de Chevrolet-motor of het rijdersgaspedaalsysteem niet de oorzaak zijn.

Rosenqvist knalde met hoge snelheid in ronde 25 van de 70 keihard de bandenstapels in bij bocht 6. Het klonk of het gas bleef hangen. De wedstrijd werd na dit incident voor meer dan een uur stilgelegd om Rosenqvist te verzorgen en de barrière, die helemaal aan flarden was gereden, volledig te herstellen.
