Colton Herta heeft op imponerende wijze de poleposition gepakt in de straten van muziekstad Nashville (st. Tennessee).

Op het gloednieuwe en zeer uitdagende parcours reed de Amerikaan een tijd van 1.13.689 en was meer dan vijf tienden sneller dan titelverdediger Scott Dixon. Kampioenschapsleider Alex Palou werd derde, maar wordt op de startgrid zes plaatsen naar achteren gezet vanwege een straf.

Rinus VeeKay kende een moeilijk middag op de 3.49 kilometerlange baan. In de slotfase van Q1 raakte de Ed Carpenter Racing-coureur de muur en kwam hierdoor niet verder dan een 22ste startplaats.

De Big Machine Music City Grand Prix is vanavond om 23.30. Het is de eerste keer dat de IndyCar op dit stratencircuit rijdt. De race is te zien op Ziggo Sport.

Herta is een coureur die F1 meer verdiend dan een Latifi. Het hele weekend al met ruime marge de snelste daar op dit nieuwe circuit.

Hij kan de race alleen maar verliezen door zichzelf of een safetcar/code rood.
