Grosjean verkast naar Andretti Autosport in 2022

Romain Grosjean rijdt in 2022 voor Andretti Autosport in de IndyCar. De Fransman neemt het stuurtje over van Ryan Hunter-Reay in de DHL #28-bolide en wordt de teamgenoot van Alexander Rossi en Colton Herta. De voormalig F1-coureur maakte dit seizoen zijn debuut voor Dale Coyne Racing.

Grosjean reageerde verheugd op zijn nieuwe contract voor volgend jaar: "Ik ben erg blij om volgend seizoen voor Andretti Autosport te kunnen rijden. Het is een enorme eer om voor zo’n geweldig team te rijden als Andretti, een naam die iedereen in de autosport kent. Ik hoop dat we veel successen met elkaar zullen delen, dat is zeker ieders doel. Ik wil ook Dale Coyne Racing bedanken voor de mogelijkheid om mijn IndyCar debuut te maken. Ik heb enorm van het racen genoten en het heeft me de kans gegeven om voor één van de meest competitieve en beste teams in de wereld te racen."

Op dit moment vecht Grosjean om de titel Rookie Of The Year, die Rinus VeeKay in 2020 op zijn naam schreef. Zijn enige concurrent dit jaar is Scott McLaughlin. De Nieuw-Zeelander staat 20 punten voor, mede doordat Grosjean niet aan alle ovalraces meedeed. Met nog de slotrace van zondag in Long Beach op het programma is deze strijd zeker nog niet voorbij. Er zijn in totaal nog 54 punten te verdienen.

Aan de vorm van de Fransman zal het ieder geval niet liggen. Vorige week maakte de voormalig F1-coureur veel indruk door op het plooierige Laguna Seca, waarop inhalen niet altijd makkelijk is, vanaf P13 naar het podium te rijden.

De laatste IndyCar-wedstrijd van 2021 is zondag om 21.45 uur Nederlandse tijd. De race is te volgen op Ziggo Sport.

Mannetje kan echt wel rijden, maar het niveau ligt niet bijster hoog in de Indycar. Toch vind ik het wel een leukee serie om maar te kijken
