"Redemption!" Dat zei Will Power na zijn strakke en tactische overwinning op Belle Isle in Detroit. In 2021 verloor de Australiër de wedstrijd op het allerlaatste moment door pech, maar dat bleef de Penske-coureur dit keer bespaard. Het is de 41ste zege voor Power uit zijn IndyCar-carrière. Met deze winst neemt de kampioen van 2014 de leiding over in de stand met drie punten voorsprong op Marcus Ericsson.

Het podium met Will Power, nummer twee Alexander Rossi en nummer drie Scott Dixon startten alledrie buiten de top acht. Zonder neutralisaties - een unicum op Belle Isle - werkten de drie IndyCar-piloten zich naar voren, mede door alternatieve strategieën.

Rinus 'VeeKay' van Kalmthout begon brutaal aan de laatste Detroit Grand Prix op Belle Isle en haalde gelijk Romain Grosjean en teamgenoot Conor Daly in. Een matige eerst pitstop wierp de Ed Carpenter Racing-coureur verder naar achteren, maar kon zich toch opwerken naar de tiende positie en hield dat vast tot het einde. Maar in de laatste ronde ging het toch mis en crashte in de muur.

In 2023 is de Detroit Grand Prix weer in het centrum, op de contouren van de lay-out van het oude F1-circuit, waar in de jaren '80 werd geracet.

Aankomend weekend is alweer de volgende wedstrijd. Dan reist het IndyCar-circus af naar het Spa-Francorchamps van de Verenigde Staten: Road America.

Het lijkt wel alsof Rossi niet mag winnen van Andretti. Andretti gooit tot 2x toe een brandstofvoordeel weg door Rossi kortere stints te laten rijden en de laatste stint moet hij brandstof besparen en 25 ronden volhouden op banden...

2 rondjes minder brandstof besparen en Rossi had hem gehad. Zeker weten.
