Dixon verslaat Herta en grijpt zege in Toronto

Zesvoudig kampioen Scott Dixon heeft de Honda Indy Toronto op zijn naam geschreven. De Nieuw-Zeelander versloeg Colton Herta na een intens duel in een wedstrijd volop actie en neutralisaties. Voor Dixon is dit het 18de jaar op rij met minimaal één zege per seizoen. Felix Rosenqvist, die moet vrezen voor zijn IndyCar-zitje bij McLaren, werd knap derde en snoerde de critici voorlopig de mond.

Rinus 'VeeKay' van Kalmthout begon als 20ste, reed kortstondig aan de leiding, maar werd door een late pitstop en een neutralisatie vanwege troep op de baan naar achteren geworpen. De Ed Carpenter Racing-coureur kwam als dertiende over de meet.

Kampioenschapsleider Marcus Ericsson liep uit op nummer twee Will Power. De Zweed heeft 351 punten en Power 316. Alex Palou duikt de top drie binnen met 314. Dixon staat nu vierde met 307 punten dankzij zijn overwinning. VeeKay blijft steken op positie 12.

De komende vier weekenden staan er vijf raced op het programma. In het weekend van 23 juli een double header op de oval van Iowa Speedway. Op zaterdag 30 juli racet het circus opnieuw af naar Indianapolis om voor de tweede keer te rijden op de binnenbaan van de Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In het weekend van 7 augustus wordt de drukke periode afgesloten met de wedstrijd door de straten van Nashville.

  Dixon is ouder ja, maar meer routinier dan bejaard denk ik. Zet Alonso eens in een topauto, denk je dan dat Verstappen en Leclerc echt alle duels van de oude rot zouden winnen?
  Het zegt meer over Dixon dus dan over Herta denk ik.

  Dixon is behoorlijk goed had in de F1 ook behoorlijk uit de voeten gekund.. is niet voor niets gedeeltelijk 2de in de all time list qua overwinningen..

Marcus Ericsson, de glorieuze winnaar van de Indy500 2022 en huidige kampioensleider is weliswaar uitgelopen op nummer twee, Will Power, maar er taan momenteel 4 (vier!) coureurs binnen de 45 punten achterstand op de aimabele maar tevens supersnelle Zweed uit Kumla, Örebro.
In tegenstelling tot de F1 is 45 punten bij de IndyCar slechts een klein gat.

  Larry, hebt helemaal gelijk, er komen weer een paar mooie races aan, met komend weekend een double header, ik kijk er naar uit. Verder lees ik veel ongefundeerde posts als het over INDYCAR gaat. Het is totaal niet te vergelijken met F1.
