Dixon wint in Nashville en nadert P1 positie rangschikking

Scott Dixon heeft tijdens de Big Machine Music City Grand Prix zijn 53ste zege geboekt en zijn tweede van het seizoen. De 42-jarige Chip Ganassi-coureur nadert de onfortuinlijke Will Power op zes punten in het kampioenschap. Polesitter Scott McLaughlin finishte in een race volop neutralisaties en de nodige crashes als tweede en zorgde daarmee voor een Nieuw-Zeelandse één-twee. Regerend kampioen en teamgenoot van Dixon, Alex Palou, reed met voorvleugelschade naar de derde plaats. De wedstrijd in Nashville begon later vanwege slechte omstandigheden.

Rinus 'VeeKay' van Kalmthout werkte zich knap naar voren en was met nog 30 ronden te gaan in de top zeven te vinden. Maar de Ed Carpenter Racing-coureur verremde zich en brandde zijn sloffen op en moest noodgedwongen naar binnen. Tot overmaat van ramp knalde de Hoofddorper vlak daarna op de stilstaande Graham Rahal na een blinde bocht. Daar kon de Nederlander niet veel aan doen.

VeeKay kon dankzij wat hulp van marshalls verder. Hij besloot, terwijl de pitsstraat dicht was, opnieuw naar binnen te duiken ter controle Ondanks de tegenslag en de straf vanwege een dichte pitlane kon de Ed Carpenter Racing-coureur met nummer #21 toch zijn machine als twaalfde over de meet trekken.

Dixons come back

In ronde 29 van de Big Machine Music City Grand Prix reed Scott Dixon als laatste na een straf. 51 ronden later vierde hij zijn overwinning en gaat Mario Andretti voorbij voor de tweede plaats op de lijst van aller tijden met 53 zeges.

"Een pluim voor het team", zei Dixon. "We hebben daar een grote crash gehad waarbij de helft van de vloer van de auto is weggevallen. We moesten de voorvleugel vier keer naar buiten draaien, dus we hadden geen grip. Nashville is zo geweldig.”

Kampioenschap

Kampioenschapsleider Power kende problemen met de versnellingsbak en scoorde niet veel punten. Ook titelkandidaat Marcus Ericsson kende issues met de schakelbak en viel op het laatst net buiten de top tien. Hierdoor kon Dixon opschuiven naar P2 in de rangschikking.

Power heeft 450 punten en Dixon 444 punten. Ericsson volgt op 438. Josef Newgarden heeft er 428 en Palou 417. Met nog drie races te gaan is het kampioenschap allesbehalve beslist.

Dixon, Power, Newgarden, Ericson en Palou zitten nog dik in de mix voor de titel. Nog 3 races te gaan.

Wordt een heel spannend einde van het seizoen.

  Idd, het was ff doorbijten, vooral omdat de race wat later begon, maar het was weer de moeite waard Tyla !

Tja, en dan knalt Veekay in een blinde bocht op de auto van Rahal die al 23 ronden achterstand had...het kan gebeuren...
