McLaren met NASCAR-kampioen naar Indy 500 in 2024

Het team van McLaren is vandaag de dag niet alleen actief in de Formule 1. De Britse renstal racet ook in de IndyCars en dat betekent dus ook dat ze in actie komen tijdens de Indy 500. De renstal zet daar elk jaar een extra wagen in voor een bijzondere coureur, voor 2024 kiest men voor een wel heel bijzondere naam.

De extra wagen van het team van Arrow McLaren wordt in 2024 namelijk bestuurd door niemand minder dan NASCAR Cup Series-coureur Kyle Larson. De Amerikaan werd in 2021 kampioen in die klasse en mag nu dus ook gaan jagen op IndyCar-succes. Voor de komst van Larson gaat McLaren samenwerken met het NASCAR-team van Rick Hendrick. Larson zal officieel gezien dan ook gaan rijden voor het team van HendrickCars.com Arrow McLaren.

Dit jaar zet het team van McLaren de derde wagen in voor IndyCar-veteraan Tony Kanaan. De ervaren Braziliaan wordt dan de teamgenoot van Pato O'Ward, Felix Rosenqvist en Alexander Rossi. In het verleden kwamen ook Juan Pablo Montoya en Fernando Alonso in actie voor het team tijdens de wereldberoemde autosportklassieker die wordt verreden op de Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Zo kan een carrière gaan; je gooit het N woord er uit tijdens een potje online gamen, je wordt door iedereen verguisd, je wordt ontslagen, een top team neemt je in genade aan, je wint vervolgens het kampioenschap en ineens mag je met de Indy 500 meedoen.
