Wilson mist Indy 500 na hard trainingsongeval

De voorbereidingen op de Indianapolis 500 zijn momenteel in volle gang. Gisteren kwam de coureurs in actie tijdens de gebruikelijke training op de Indianapolis Motor Speedway, maar niet voor iedereen liep dat even goed af. Katherine Legge en Stefan Wilson crashten en voor laatstgenoemde had dat vervelende gevolgen.

De twee coureurs raakten elkaar waarna ze allebei op volle vaart de muur in vlogen. Na de crash was het al snel duidelijk dat Legge in orde was, maar dat Wilson voor verder onderzoek naar het ziekenhuis werd gebracht. De Britse coureur was bij kennis, maar over zijn toestand heerste geruime tijd veel onduidelijkheid. Laat op de dag kwam Wilsons team met meer duidelijkheid.

In een statement legden Dreyer & Reinbold en Cusick Motorsports de situatie uit. De samenwerkende teams laten weten dat Wilson een ruggenwervel heeft gebroken en dat hij daardoor niet kan deelnemen aan de Indy 500 van aankomend weekend. Of Wilson dit weekend zal worden vervangen, is nog niet duidelijk. Wilson had zich dit weekend gekwalificeerd voor de legendarische race en zou voor de vijfde keer deelnemen aan de wedstrijd. Hij is de broer van Justin Wilson, die in 2015 overleed na een noodlottig ongeval tijdens een Indycar-race.

Bij de Indy is het de auto die zich kwalificeert (als ik het goed heb), dus Dryer mag iemand anders in die auto zetten. Weet niet wat er gebeurt als ze de auto terugtrekken.

Zag er wel knullig uit van Legge.....

Graham Rahal dan toch als nummer 33? Of is de auto van Legge afgeschreven en heeft RLR geen autos meer over voor Graham?

Of Graham voor Dryer... hun reserve auto werd direct klaar gezet na de crash

  Beamer@ dat was wel altijd zo, maar een aantal jaren geleden aangepast naar de coureur. Ik twijfel wel over het jaar vanaf wanneer maar het is nog niet heel lang geleden gewijzigd.
  
  Ik ben hier wel heel zeker van gezien Jo ep to ep fanatiekeling Dav id La nd zich hier nog heel druk om maakte. (Die maakt zich druk om elke aanpassing van de indy 500)

  Ik lees net bij "de buren" dat Graham Rahal inderdaad Wilson gaat vervangen in de auto van Dreyer & Reinbold Racing/Cusick Motorsports.
