Tijdens de zondagrace op Iowa kwam een losgeraakt wiel van Sting Ray Robb - die op slakkentempo reed - op de baan. De band rolde rustig verder, maar zorgde voor een gevaarlijke situatie met auto's die boven de 300 rijden.

De meeste coureurs konden de band ontwijken, maar Conor Daly kreeg hem volop de neus. Zonder aeroscreen had dit ook anders kunnen aflopen.

Sting Ray Robb werd gediskwalificeerd. Bij de stop vergat een monteur een moer te installeren. Robb kreeg dit euvel te horen op de radio en moest gelijk weer de pits in.
