Grosjean vindt onderdak bij Juncos Hollinger Racing

Het was nog de vraag of Romain Grosjean terug zou keren in de IndyCar, maar aan die onzekerheid is een einde gekomen. De Fransman heeft toch nog een stoeltje weten te vinden voor 2024 en racet onder de hoede van Junos Hollinger Racing met de Chevrolet nummer #77 machine. Hij vervangt voormalig F2-rijder Callum Ilott.

Op 37-jarige leeftijd ziet hij de overgang naar JHR als een spannend nieuw avontuur in zijn carrière. "Ik heb de opkomst van JHR de afgelopen seizoenen nauwlettend gevolgd. Het team heeft een aanzienlijke groei laten zien en ik wil graag mijn ervaring bijdragen terwijl we streven naar een sterk seizoen 2024", zei de voormalig F1-coureur.

Grosjean reed in 2023 nog voor Andretti, maar door tegenvallende resultaten en meerdere incidenten op de baan werd afscheid genomen van elkaar. In 2021 debuteerde de Fransman in de Amerikaanse tegenhanger van de Formule 1 en behaalde tot dusver zes podia en drie poles. Zijn beste eindklassering was een dertiende plaats. Voor de IndyCar reed Grosjean 179 F1-races en scoorde 391 punten en tien podia en werd wereldwijd bekend door een bijna-dood-ervaring tijdens de Grand Prix van Bahrein waar hij ontsnapte uit de vlammenzee na een heftige crash.

Wel zo goed voor Romain, denk ik. Hij is zo'n coureur die beter op z'n plek is in een team waar de verwachtingen niet al te hoog liggen, en waar hij boven zichzelf en de wagen uit kan stijgen. Een kampioenschapsauto zoals de Andretti is gewoon wat te hoog gegrepen voor hem.

Wel zo goed voor Romain, denk ik. Hij is zo'n coureur die beter op z'n plek is in een team waar de verwachtingen niet al te hoog liggen, en waar hij boven zichzelf en de wagen uit kan stijgen. Een kampioenschapsauto zoals de Andretti is gewoon wat te hoog gegrepen voor hem.

  Andretti was echt waardeloos afgelopen jaar. (Herta was echt helemaal niks) Alleen Kirkwood bakte er wat van. JHR is prima keuze, ook vanwege de samenwerking met McLaren!

  Ik vind het zwaar onterecht dat hij de plek van Illot over neemt.
  
  De slechtste resultaten waren vorig jaar gewoon aan Grosjean zelf te danken en niet eens aan slechte strategieen... ik bedoel hoe vaak Grosjean halverwege niet alle 4 de wielen nog recht op het asfalt had staan was te vaak.
  
  Ik denk een slechte keuze voor Juncos... die vooral een stabiele rijder nodig heeft ipv een frans/zwitserse daredevil
