Regen spelbreker bij kwalificatie Le Mans

De tweede en derde kwalificatie voor de 24 uur van Le Mans van komend weekend zijn gisterenavond grotendeels verregend. Er viel zoveel water dat de sessie zelfs stilgelegd moest worden. De Ferrari's met startnummers 60 en 82 spinden op het rechte stuk van de baan.

Ook de LMP1-wagens en de safety car hadden moeite om de auto onder controle te houden en op het asfalt te blijven. Door de regenval zijn de tijden van dinsdag ook niet verbeterd, waardoor Porsche de volledige eerste startrij voor zich opgeëist heeft.

Neel Jani reed in de eerste kwalificatie een 3:19.733 en dat bleek genoeg voor pole position. De tweede startrij is voor Toyota, de derde startrij voor Audi. De auto's van Rebellion Racing gaven weer enkele seconden toe op de autofabrikanten in de LMP1-klasse.

In de LMP2-klasse was de wagen met startnummer 26, met Roman Rusinov, Will Stevens en Rene Rast beurtelings aan boord, de snelste met een 3:36.605, goed voor een tiende plaats overall. De inschrijving met Ho-Pin Tung eindigde op de elfde plaats en was dus tweede in de LMP2-klasse.

Giedo van der Garde en Jeroen Bleekemolen waren terug te vinden op respectievelijk P21 en P27. Ford was het snelst in de GTE Pro-klasse. De 24 uur van Le Mans start zaterdag om 15.00 uur.
