Sirotkin rekent op vrije training bij thuisrace in Sotsji

Sergey Sirotkin debuteert toch niet in 2014 in de Formule 1. De 18-jarige Rus hoorde bij een Russische reddingsoperatie voor Sauber, maar de Zwitserse renstal ging voor de racestoeltjes in zee met Adrian Sutil en Esteban Gutierrez. Voor Sirotkin resteert een plek aan de zijlijn als testrijder en daar heeft hij begrip voor.

F1news.ru citeert hem: "In mijn ogen is dit de beste optie voor mijn ontwikkeling, weer racen in de World Series by Renault en als derde rijder aan een Formule 1-team verbonden zijn. In het contract met Sauber staat niet omschreven hoe vaak ik in vrije trainingen in actie zal komen, maar als reserverijder ben ik in elk geval bij alle Grands Prix van de partij."

"Maar ik twijfel er niet aan dat een van mijn vrijdagsessies plaats zal vinden in Sotsji voor de eerste Grand Prix van Rusland. We praten ook over wanneer we de benodigde superlicentie kunnen halen. Er is niet echt haast, we kunnen het doen voor aanvang van het seizoen of in de beginfase van de nieuwe jaargang."
