Arrivabene: "Gutierrez is geen pay-driver"

Ferrari ontkent dat het een 'pay-driver' in dienst heeft genomen in de persoon van Esteban Gutierrez. Gisteren sprak ex-Red Bull Racing coureur Mark Webber zich uit tegen de hoeveelheid coureurs die zich een weg naar de Formule 1 hebben betaald. De Australiër noemde deze ontwikkeling 'onzin' en 'iets dat we niet in de sport willen'.

Maurizio Arrivabene ontkent echter dat Esteban Gutierrez om die reden voor het Italiaanse team heeft getekend: "Ik heb veel kritiek gehoord rondom het aantrekken van Esteban. Zo zou hij bijvoorbeeld alleen de baan hebben gekregen omdat America Movil een groot geldbedrag betaalt. Maar dat is niet waar. De onderhandelingen met America Novil en Carlos Slim hadden niets te maken met Esteban, maar meer omdat ik zelf bevriend ben met Carlos. Ik heb hem gebeld en we zijn samen tot een overeenkomst gekomen."

De Italiaan denkt daarnaast dat Ferrari een goede rol kan vervullen in het terugbrengen van Gutierrez naar de grid: "Esteban kwam te vroeg in de Formule 1. Ik wil niet onrespectvol zijn, maar hij debuteerde bij een team met veel problemen. Sauber was niet de juiste plek voor hem. Dit moet je meenemen als je Esteban's performance over de laatste jaren evalueert."

"Een van de redenen waarom wij Gutierrez hebben aangetrokken was omdat hij onze motor van afgelopen jaar kent. Hij werkt elke dag op Maranello en begint nu met het bijwonen van een filmdag en te werken in Barcelona. Dit is de juiste manier om een jonge rijder bekend te maken met de Formule 1."

Lul je er nou gewoon niet uit Arrivabene het is een voorbeeld paydriver bij uitstek. Prima zet om hem als Ferrari zo het geld van Slim binnen te halen maar de prestaties van hem in de lagere klasses waren best aardig maar in de F1 was hij meer dan kleurloos...

hahaha op 1 ochtend claimen dat Ferrari geen politiek meer wil EN dat Gutierrez geen pay-driver is. Lobroeken in Maranello zijn iig nog niet uit.

In de wandelgangen, dus nieter zekerheid te zeggen, wordt gesproken over het feit dat de Ferrarimotor van afgelopen seizoenen mede door Guttierez is ontworpen!
Toen ze voor dit seizoen extra pk's moesten hebben hebben Guttierez en Slim ook aangegeven aan dat verzoek te willen en te kunnen voldoen maar dan wel als Ferrari vrijwillig en zonder daarvoor geld te ontvangen een twestzijde reserveerde.
Want Ferrari had wel testcoureurs met ervaring met de motor maar ja, wat heeft bv een Fisico ooit gepresteerd t.o.v. een Guttierez? Gene heeft al helemaal geen kennis van de motor.
Nee jongens, nu niet allemaal op Arrivabene afgeven want hoewel wij in de luie stoel zitten en geen feiten kennen en er niks van weten, mag toch worden aangenomen dat Arrivabene hier de waarheid en niks dan de waarheid verteld. Sterker nog, volgens Vettel en Raikkonen hebben zij zelf wekenlang aangedrongen op de komst van Guttierez. RB, Mercedes en McLaren keken tandenknarsend toe en naar verluid heeft STR zelfs nog gepoogd Max in te ruilen + 55 miljoen. Helaas, of voor de Ferrari fans gelukkig, ging dat niet door!

Als dit nu werkelijk gaat om het terug naar de F1 brengen van een talent, dan is deze actie wat mij betreft symptomatisch voor het 'succes' van Ferrari's young driver program > steeds de verkeerde talenten kiezen en er vervolgens te lang aan vast houden.

Die Arrivanbene had ik toch altijd wel als een serieus iemand gezien, maar daar is nu dus wel verandering in gekomen door deze uitspraak. Gutierrez is gewoon een pay-driver en hij zal voor Ferrari geen toevoegende waarde zijn, buiten de miljoenen die betaald zijn.
Hij mag wel de reserve coureur zijn, maar als het zover zou moeten komen gaat het niet gebeuren dat hij zal invallen. Ferrari zal dan voor Vergne kiezen, het zou gewoon ook het meest logische zijn.
