Gutierrez: "Rol bij Ferrari opent deuren elders"

Esteban Gutierrez nam eind vorig jaar het besluit om genoegen te nemen met een rol op de reservebank. De Mexicaan koos ervoor om na twee seizoenen als racecoureur bij Sauber een positie als testrijder te accepteren bij Ferrari. En dat legt hem geen windeieren. Gutierrez is nu in beeld voor een stoeltje bij Haas F1 Team, de nieuwe Amerikaanse renstal.

Haas is het officieuze B-team van Ferrari. Gutierrez verklaarde aan ESPN F1: "Het zou veel voor me betekenen om weer fulltime te gaan racen. Ik kwam naar Ferrari als derde rijder met een duidelijk doel voor ogen, met een visie. Ik nam een risico door mijn racestoeltje af te staan. Het is al niet makkelijk om in de Formule 1 te geraken, maar terugkeren is nog lastiger."

"Dat risico heb ik bewust genomen met een plan. Gelukkig gaat alles uitstekend in mijn relatie met Scuderia Ferrari en ik ben heel blij met hoe mijn keuze uit is gepakt. Ik probeer een waardevolle bijdrage te leveren aan de ontwikkeling van het team en deze rol opent elders weer deuren voor mij. Ik werk hard om dat voor volgend seizoen te consolideren."

Gutierrez komt dit jaar mogelijk nog in actie voor Ferrari in de eerste training voor de Grand Prix van Mexico. "Dat is nog niet bevestigd. Ferrari wil me die kans geven en het zou heel speciaal zijn om te doen. Teambaas Maurizio Arrivabene heeft het er al over gehad. Veel hangt natuurlijk af van de situatie in het kampioenschap op dat moment."

  Check zijn stats even van pre F1, daar is niets mis mee!
  
  In de F1 zat niet alles mee helaas maar hij verdient nog wel een kans naar mijn mening. Net als vele anderen dat ook doen maar niet meer zullen krijgen.

  Lars , volgens mij heeft een 2 jaar de kans gehad, maar niets laten zien.
  vb 2013 : Hulkenberg 10x in de top 10, jouw Esteban 1X !
  En in 2014 was hij niet opgewassen tegen een middelmatige Sutil.
  Dus aub geen nieuwe kans meer voor de Mex.

Ik was even bang dat Esteban gewoon aan de kant geschoven is bij Sauber maar gelukkig is dat niet het geval geweest. Hij heeft zijn racestoeltje af gestaan, vrijwillig begrijp ik nu. Er leefde een achterliggend idee bij hem: hij had een doel voor ogen, een plan - wat zeg ik - een visie. Nou nou.

Ik vrees dat de gemiddelde F1 fan niet op Gutierrez zit te wachten.
Er zijn andere en betere talenten die zich jaarlijks aandienen.
Geef hen een kans.
En als je je zo al in bochten moet wringen om testpiloot te worden van een topteam met achterliggend gedachte dat die je dan kunnen opdringen aan hun B team.
Kan je dan niet beter een ander pad in je carriere uitstippelen waar je misschien wel een topper worden kan ?

Deze jongen heeft in de opstap klasses toch mooie dingen laten zien. Van mij mag hij nog een kans, het muntje moet gewoon een keer zijn kant op vallen.
