Haas F1 met beide benen op de grond na zesde plaats

Het eerste Amerikaanse F1-team in dertig jaar, Haas F1, blijft met beide benen op de grond na een droomdebuut vorige week in Melbourne. Romain Grosjean wist optimaal van de rode vlag te profiteren en finishte op een mooie zesde plek. Teambaas Günther Steiner is uiteraard zeer in zijn nopjes met de gescoorde punten, maar beseft zich ook dat Haas niet met haar hoofd in de wolken moet blijven hangen.

"Het is prachtig om meteen zesde te worden in je eerste Grand Prix, maar we weten ook dat we niet iedere race om de punten mee zullen doen. We moeten realistisch blijven. Positief is dat we een positie in het middenveld hebben, iets wat niet alle nieuwe teams is gelukt. Er gaan lastige races aankomen dit jaar, daar houden we rekening mee", aldus Steiner.

Het was niet alleen maar vreugde bij Haas in Australië. Esteban Gutierrez werd van achteren aangereden door McLaren-coureur Fernando Alonso. De Mexicaan bleef ongedeerd, maar het chassis van de Haas VF-16 en enkele andere onderdelen moesten terug naar Europa om gerepareerd te worden. Haas maakte voor aanvang van de Grand Prix van Australië bekend krap in de reserveonderdelen te zitten, maar volgens Steiner kan het team inmiddels met de situatie dealen: "Onze voorraad reserveonderdelen is momenteel nog niet op niveau, maar we hebben genoeg om verder te kunnen. We blijven hard werken."

Persoonlijk verwacht ik Haas niet voor McLaren en Renault. Het feit dat Grosjean 6e werd kwam gewoon door een perfecte strategie, de rode vlag situatie en doordat er moeilijk ingehaald kon worden in Australië.

  Australie is meestal niet geheel representatief voor het verder verloop van het seizoen. Het is een semi-straten circuit waar het lastig inhalen is, wat je ook zag gedurende de race.
  Bahrein zal een beter beeld geven over de daadwerkelijke verhoudingen tussen de teams.
  Al vermoed ik dat het gedurende het seizoen wel zal gaan verschuiven (wat doet de korte neus bij Williams, in hoevere krijgt de Renault pu een powerboost, wat kan Honda nog doen).
  Ik denk dat Haas en Force India terug gaan zakken in jouw rijtje El Salvador naar mate het seizoen vordert, ook Torro Rosso zal die derde stek (helaas) niet kunnen vasthouden.

  @Mr Marly Welke derde stek ?
  De best geklasseerde TR rijder werd negende in Australië. De andere tiende.
  Je gaat nu toch geen tussenklassering van tijdens de race doorgeven om te vergelijken ?

Tuurlijk, zo hoort het ook.
Lijkt me heel logisch dat ze niet constant gaan meestrijden voor de punten.
Maar verwacht toch wel dat er nog puntenklasseringen gaan volgen in de loop van het seizoen.
