Gutierrez beschikt in Bahrein over nieuw chassis

Haas F1 Team rust Esteban Gutierrez voor Bahrein uit met een nieuw chassis. Zijn vorige chassis is te zwaar beschadigd geraakt bij de aanrijding door Fernando Alonso tijdens de Australische Grand Prix. Alonso knalde achterop de Mexicaan en beëindigde zo de race voor beiden.

De schade was enorm. Niet alleen voor de McLaren-coureur, maar dus ook bij Haas F1. Teambaas Günther Steiner legt uit: "Sommige onderdelen, zoals het chassis van Esteban, zijn teruggestuurd naar de fabriek in Europa om te laten controleren en te repareren. Dat kunnen we niet ter plekke in Bahrein doen."

"We hebben genoeg reserve-onderdelen om een nieuw chassis op te bouwen, dus dat gaan we doen. Dan vliegen we het gerepareerde chassis in naar Bahrein en dat zal dan fungeren als reserve-chassis. De teamleden zullen dag en nacht moeten werken, maar het is haalbaar. We zitten krap in de reserve-onderdelen, maar we hebben er voldoende om het voor elkaar te boksen."
