Palmer gelukkig met kans bij fabrieksteam Renault

Jolyon Palmer heeft dit seizoen nog een punten gescoord voor zijn team Renault in de Formule 1. Toch is de Brit naar eigen zeggen erg gelukkig dat hij een kans in de koningsklasse van de autosport gekregen heeft.

Renault staat negende in het constructeurskampioenschap door een zevende plaats van Kevin Magnussen in Rusland. De auto van de Franse constructeur is niet erg competitief gebleken, maar voor Palmer is dat geen excuus om zich ongelukkig te voelen. Dat liet hij aan ESPN weten. "Ik denk dat we vooral ongelukkig zijn geweest met alles wat er gebeurd is, maar we wisten dat dit een redelijk moeilijk jaar zou worden. Ik verwachtte dat we zouden zijn waar we nu zijn en ik ben nog steeds erg blij."

"Ik denk dat ik erg gelukkig mag zijn met mijn kans bij Renault, omdat het een fabrieksteam is. Ze hebben veel geld en faciliteiten en in de toekomst zullen ze kampioen worden. Het is beter om hier te zitten dan bij teams die nu wat beter presteren."

Doordat Palmer een lastige start van zijn carrière beleeft, zijn er natuurlijk geruchten ontstaan dat de Brit zijn stoeltje nog dit jaar zou verliezen aan Esteban Ocon. Doordat de Fransman bij Manor instapt, lijken die geruchten afgezwakt te zijn. Palmer zegt echter dat die speculaties geen invloed hebben op zijn werk. "Ik ben gewend aan die geruchten, dus het is geen shock om dat te horen. Ik weet hoe de situatie hier nu is, ik doe mijn best en wat iedereen ook zegt, ik moet in de auto mijn werk doen."

  Klopt, want Magnussen is momenteel ook van het niveau vaatdoek. Als Renault serieus kans wil maken om WK te worden, dan schup ze er beide maar snel uit. Het moge duidelijk zijn dat dit geen aankomend wereld kampioenen zijn. Perez en Ocon d'r in.

  Ik had aan het begin van het seizoen verwacht dat Magnussen duidelijk sneller zou blijken. Nu, halverwege het seizoen, zeg ik Palmer doet niet veel onder voor Magnussen. Gelijkwaardig. Alhoewel de Renault niet een bijzondere auto is om in te zitten, heb ik wel de indruk dat er snellere coureurs te vinden zijn.
  Ik ga ook voor Perez en Ocon in 2017.

  Vind dat jij vlug bent in het afschieten van piloten die het momenteel iets minder doen.
  In vorig artikel was dat Kvyat, nu Palmer.
  Misschien goed voor jouw dat ze bij Manor Haryanto zelf al vervangen hebben ?

Toch wel veldopvulling, samen me Guti.
Magnussen is zo een randgeval, net zoals zijn vader in feite... Best wel een snelle piloot, maar een net niet gehalte. Vrees dat het nu of nooit is voor Kevin.
