Nico Hulkenberg: "Leuk gevecht met Ocon en Alonso"

Renault-rijder Nico Hulkenberg was de eerste rijder die buiten de punten eindigde, maar in tegenstelling tot zijn teamgenoot Jolyon Palmer wist hij wel de eindstreep te halen. En ook hier een tevreden coureur die blij is dat zijn team een hoop heeft opgestoken van de race.

"Ik zat vast"

Hulkenberg: "Een tiende plaats was echt wel mogelijk geweest, maar de eerste ronde was niet geweldig. Ik probeerde een Toro Rosso in te halen, maar verloor uiteindelijk een plaats aan Fernando Alonso". De Duitser vertelt dat dit zijn raceplan redelijk in de war stuurde: "Ik zat vast en kon er niet meer langs."

Spectaculaire inhaalmanoeuvre

"Mijn gevecht met Ocon en Alonso was erg leuk en ik moest alles geven met DRS", zo zegt hij. Over de inhaalmanoeuvre zegt hij: "Het was behoorlijk spectaculair en het zal er ook prachtig uit hebben gezien vanaf de buitenkant."

Dan komt het vaste riedeltje dat we de laatste weken al vaker hebben gehoord van diverse rijders: hoop informatie verzameld, veel geleerd, analyseren en een stap voorwaarts maken. "Vooruit kijkend ben ik ervan overtuigd dat we de set-up van de wagen kunnen verbeteren en ik kijk er naar uit om in China alweer te gaan rijden", zo besluit hij.
