Wederom dubbele puntenfinish voor Force India

Net als in Melbourne wist het team van Force India met beide auto's in de punten te finishen. Sergio Perez finishte de race op het Shanghai International Circuit als negende, teamgenoot Esteban Ocon werd tiende. Ocon liet tijdens de race een aantal mooie inhaalacties zien.

Perez ondanks punten niet geheel tevreden

"Allereerst is het natuurlijk fijn om weer in de punten te eindigen. Ik had een slechte start, bij het ingaan van de eerste bocht was ik al zeker vijf plekken teruggevallen. Bij het wegrijden van mijn startpositie had ik wat wielspin en in combinatie met het natte asfalt, kon ik weinig beginnen. Gelukkig wist ik me gedurende de eerste ronde te herstellen, al had ik wel een momentje met Lance Stroll. Dat moment zorgde voor een lekke band en we besloten te wisselen naar de droogweerbanden. Tijdens de race heb ik Daniil Kvyat en Massa nog weten te verschalken. We hadden zeker dingen beter kunnen doen tijdens deze race, maar gelukkig gaan we met punten naar huis", aldus Perez in een reactie op de website van Force India.

Ocon laat strijdlust zien

In de andere roze VMJ10 wist Esteban Ocon vanaf een zeventiende startplaats op te klimmen naar een tiende plaats aan de finish. De Fransman liet enkele mooie inhaalacties zien tijdens de race: "Het is fijn om een punt te scoren, maar ik heb het gevoel dat we nog iets beter hadden gekund. Ik kwam ongepland naar binnen en dat kostte me zeker vijftien seconden. Ondanks dat kunnen we tevreden zijn met het resultaat."

Ocon doet het erg goed, voor de tweede keer op rij in de punten op een circuit waar hij nog nooit gereden had.

  Vooral deze race vond ik erg goed van hem. Hij laat leuke dingen zien. Nu Perez nog een keertje verslaan.
