Wederom sterke kwalificatie voor Force India

Het team van Force India kende andermaal een sterke kwalificatie. Net als in de vorige races starten beide auto's van de Brits-Indiase renstal in de top tien. Beide coureurs zijn tevreden met hun prestaties, zeker nadat de trainingen vrij moeizaam verliepen. Sergio Perez start de race als achtste, zijn Franse teamgenoot Esteban Ocon mag als tiende beginnen.

Perez: resultaat komt als kleine verrassing

Sergio Perez was de snellere van de twee Force India-coureurs en laat weten dat het resultaat als een kleine verrassing komt: "Om eerlijk te zijn ben ik een beetje verrast door dit resultaat. In de trainingen liep het niet zo lekker, maar gelukkig ging alles in de kwalificatie wel goed. Ik ben een klein beetje teleurgesteld dat ik de zevende plek net heb gemist, maar de ronde van Fernando Alonso was dan ook erg sterk. Voor de race van morgen hebben we nog genoeg nieuwe banden en dat zou ons een klein voordeel op moeten leveren. Inhalen is bijzonder lastig hier, een goede start hebben wordt dus belangrijk."

Ocon: fout met DRS kostte me tijd

In de andere VMJ10 reed Esteban Ocon naar de tiende tijd. De Fransman is blij in de top tien te starten, maar laat ook weten dat er meer had ingezeten: "Het is fijn dat we weer in de top tien mogen starten, maar jammer dat ik niet wat hoger sta dan de tiende plek. Mijn ronde in het laatste kwalificatiedeel was niet goed, dit had te maken met een foutje van mezelf. Ik drukte de DRS-knop te vroeg in, waardoor de vleugel niet open ging. Ik denk dat me dat zeker drie tienden heeft gekost."
