Sergio Perez: "Nooit getwijfeld om contract te verlengen"

Met een nieuw contract op zak zal Sergio Perez vanmiddag de Grand Prix van Singapore aanvangen. De Mexicaan vormt net als dit seizoen een duo met Esteban Ocon, die halverwege vorig seizoen zijn Formule 1-debuut maakte bij het inmiddels ter ziele gegane Manor Racing. Perez laat in een reactie weten dat het altijd zijn intentie is geweest het aflopende contract bij Force India te verlengen.

"Dit team heeft me een tweede kans gegeven in de Formule 1, nadat mijn avontuur bij een topteam niet heeft gebracht waar beide partijen op hadden gehoopt. Ik heb het naar mijn zin bij dit team en we hebben veel bereikt met de beperkte middelen die we hebben. Vorig jaar was een erg sterk jaar voor ons met een vierde plek bij de constructeurs en het lijkt erop dat we dat succes kunnen herhalen. Ik wil een volgende stap zetten met het team en alle ingrediënten om dat te bereiken zijn aanwezig", aldus Perez in het officiële persbericht dat Force India heeft uitgebracht.

Met de bevestiging van Perez is er weer een stoeltje voor volgend jaar vergeven. Teams die voor volgend jaar nog plek hebben zijn Renault. Toro Rosso, Williams en Sauber. Fernando Alonso is nog niet bevestigd door McLaren, maar die bekendmaking lijkt een kwestie van tijd.
